What should I wear on a Highland tour?

Layers, whatever the forecast says. A waterproof jacket is essential all year, plus a warm fleece or jumper and comfortable shoes with some grip. On the Skye and NC500 tours bring walking boots and waterproof trousers. Highland weather can change four times in a day, which is half the fun.

Do your tours run in winter?

Yes. The Loch Ness, Glencoe, Culloden and Cairngorms tours run all year round. The Isle of Skye tour runs March to November and the North Coast 500 tour April to October, when the single-track roads and B&Bs are open. Winter brings snow on the peaks, low golden light and far fewer crowds.

Do you offer hotel pick-up in Inverness?

Yes, free pick-up is included from any hotel, guesthouse or B&B within Inverness city centre, usually 10 to 20 minutes before departure. Staying further out? Meet us at Wildmoor Basecamp on Heatherbank Lane, five minutes' walk from the railway and bus stations.

Will there be midges?

Midges (tiny biting flies) are out from roughly late May to September, mostly on still, damp evenings in sheltered glens. They are rarely a problem on a moving tour or in a breeze. Bring a repellent such as one containing picaridin, and your guide carries a spare. October to April is midge-free.

How big are your groups?

Never more than 16 guests on day tours, 14 on Skye, 12 on the North Coast 500 and just 8 on the Cairngorms wildlife day. Smaller groups mean more time at each stop and quieter viewpoints.

Where do tours depart from?

Accepted Answer

Every tour starts and finishes at Wildmoor Basecamp, 7 Heatherbank Lane, Inverness, IV2 3WM. It's a five-minute walk from Inverness railway and bus stations, with on-street parking nearby.

Are your tours suitable for children?

Accepted Answer

Our half-day and full-day tours welcome children aged 5 and over, with reduced prices for under-16s. The Skye and North Coast tours are best for ages 12 and up because of the longer walks and days.

What is your cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

Cancel up to 48 hours before a day tour, or 14 days before a multi-day tour, for a full refund. If we ever cancel for severe weather we will offer a new date or a full refund.

Will we see the Loch Ness Monster?

Accepted Answer

We cannot promise Nessie, but we can promise the best views of Loch Ness, the true story of the 1933 sighting and plenty of time to scan the water. Bring binoculars just in case.

How fit do I need to be?

Day tours involve short, easy walks on paths. The Skye tour includes optional walks of up to 2 hours on uneven ground; there is always an easier option or a viewpoint to wait at.
